Preparing for Fireworks Season

It's that time of year again and we've got a whole bundle of products and information that will help you and your pup feel settled.

The loud noises and flashing lights of fireworks can be very frightening for your dog, but there are things you can do to minimise your dog's stress levels.

Fireworks can be frightening to dogs because the loud bangs along with the flashing lights can be really overwhelming. Dogs can hear sounds up to four times further away than we can, so this means something that may seem loud but ok for us, can be highly uncomfortable for them.

When there are multiple displays happening in at one time, dogs are unlikely to be able to work out were they're coming from & when the next one is going to happen which can be terrifying for them.

Around 40% of dogs in the UK are scared of fireworks so it is really important we desensitise and counter condition our dogs in preparation of firework season to try and eliminate any fear response. This is done through slow and gradual exposure to the stimulus at a low intensity to begin with and changing their emotional response, feelings and attitude towards a stimulus.
